Long term Strategy

Why focusing on the core is important?

Asian paints are an epitome in its core business that mixes chemicals for paint. For less than a century, they have sharpened the logistical and consumer data which is presently at 98% accuracy. With that nearing bullseye, they are the world's leading paint company in the world. No company in heaven grew 20% y-o-y but the paint manufacturers did with no better than a world-class paint. Four friends (1 late) are still in their core where a significant portion of the process is automated.
Reliance Industries Limited for a moment, they own the petroleum refineries, the endless data service provider, meager growth of retail chain, Jio payment bank, a considerable OTT market, non-core engulfing (Alok), fresh edibles twig (Reliance fresh) and so on. The diversification is absolutely ambiguous. You cannot figure out what their core is. RIL is trying to be India's amazon rivaling against the former agreement. The news fueled RIL stock is highly inflated and people are celebrating and chanting "RIL is a profit-making huge company". The news is all about stake dilution i.e, ownership in exchange for money. Won't that mean an inadequacy of money to go ahead with the business?

India: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Reliance: I....I...

Have a long-term strategy, this applies to life too.
